How to remove image metadata
- Choose a suitable static JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF or AVIF from your device.
- Re-export the image through the browser to discard original EXIF, including camera and GPS fields. Pixels remain visible, and the browser may write basic format information.
- Choose an output format, prepare the image and use Download image to save it.
Is the output guaranteed to contain no metadata at all?
No. The original embedded metadata is not copied, but browser encoders can add basic format or resolution information. This does not remove information visible in the image.
Can I open iPhone HEIC and AVIF photos?
Yes. Static HEIC/HEIF photos are decoded on your device; the decoder loads only when needed. AVIF requires browser support. Image collections and animations are not supported. Exports are JPG, PNG or WebP, rather than HEIC or AVIF. For government forms, check whether conversion or editing is allowed.
What happens to my original?
Your original file is unchanged. Processing happens in this browser without uploading your image to FileMelon. A new export may have a different file size, colour appearance or metadata. Check the preview and output before using it.
